So... What’s Fareshare?”
So... What’s Fareshare?”
What is FareShare?

FareShare is a subscription-based carpooling service created and designed to integrate carpooling in our everyday lives. We first start with matching you with people that have similar routes as you. We then dive in deeper than that by trying to match you with people that have similar interests as you such as music taste, sport preference, language preference and much more. FareShare aims to not only have everyone carpool to work but to make that carpooling experience more enjoyable than commuting alone. Why not save the Earth and your wallet while enjoying it too? (Did we just answer your question with a question? *gasp*)

Who is FareShare for?

Other ride-hailing apps provide a convenient, on – demand service,  which is why they are priced highly. FareShare is different. FareShare is for those with a consistent schedule and who need a ride to and from work everyday. This is why we provide a subscription to our service. Your subscription allows you to set up the time and days you would like to drive (to earn money back on the commute you would be already doing) or to ride (to save money grabbing a ride with a fellow FareSharer) while you both pass time engaging in conversation and using the carpool lane. When you first sign up, you’ll be prompted to enter your interests, your route, the days you take that route, and times you would like to get picked up from home and work. Once we have all that information, we match you with riders and drivers who have the same schedule as you. Additionally, we inform you on recommended pick up times so both the driver and rider can stay on schedule as well as any additional delays due to other commutes.

Think about it as a mini-schoolbus for adults (but cooler).

How does FareShare match its riders and drivers?

Since both drivers and riders provide their interests, we can find the best carpooling group for you! The main factor we take into consideration is the best route that saves you and your fellow commuters time, but we also match you up with others with similar interests, so the ride becomes more stimulating and enjoyable. Similar people with similar destinations!

If I get matched with a rider or driver, do I have to join his/her group?

When matching you with a driver, we make sure to use your destination as the key component for matching individuals and drivers, because at the end of the day we all want to get where we’re going. Once we have you matched up based on route, we then factor in your interests and preferences that you provide to us through the Fareshare app, in order to create a better carpooling experience.

If you are matched with more than one group, you are free to choose the one you would like to join. You must be aware though, that different cars may have different pick-up times as well as different preferences. Make sure to double-check these and communicate with the driver beforehand for a smooth ride!

How safe is FareShare?

Safety is our top priority. We make sure to run all drivers by DMV motor-vehicle background checks, the NSOR, as well as ask for proof of insurance in the unfortunate event of an accident. We intend to not only making carpooling fun and enjoyable, but safe as well.

Personal information like phone number and route info will only be available once users are matched and approved amongst each other in a car.

You can’t spell FareShare without Safe (kinda)

Is there a minimum or maximum amount of times I can use FareShare?
FareShare can be used as many days as needed, that being from once a month to everyday. Due to wanting to reduce our carbon footprint, rides are limited to twice a day per driver (Home to work and back again).

I want to save money and get a headstart on my day, how do I sign up as a RIDER?

How do I sign up:

We appreciate your interest in tackling traffic and wanting to help the Eart! (It doesn’t hurt saving money while doing it too!)

After downloading the app:

1. Create an account!

2. Create a unique profile where you share your likes and preferences. The more you share, the better chance of matching with suitable traffic warriors!

3.  Let us know your perfect commute: home and work addresses, time of pick ups, and time flexibility. Next you’ll be shown your personal price breakdown per month, day, and mile (However, you will not be charged until you match with a driver and both agree to the commute). Additionally, we’ll show you how much driving alone costs you and how much you save per mile, day, month, and year! By using FareShare you share the fare instead of tackling the cost of commuting by yourself.

4. Kickback and let us find people with the best routes and times that match yours. Once we have that matched, we’ll prioritize the drivers based on your likes and preferences for you to pick. All drivers with the same route as you will be displayed. We understand commutes to and from work can be long and alone. FareShare makes it so you can speed things up on the carpool lane and still be able to enjoy great company while doing so!

5. Click on your preferred patron-driver and view the car details. See how many people are in the car and what time they usually leave to work and back. Once you’re happy with a driver, simply request a driver in which they’ll be notified through an email and a notification through the app to confirm.

6. Once you and the driver agree, contact and route information are available to both the rider and driver. If the driver hasn’t already, we recommend messaging introducing yourself. If you have any items that you’re bringing like a backpack or anything else let your fellow commuter know, it’s still their car and we encourage nothing but respect for one another and each other’s possessions.

What should I expect on my first day of using FareShare?

After signing up and confirming with your driver about the commute details (if you have questions about this please look at “How do I sign Up”), the morning of your first commute you will be notified via FareShare app notification when your driver leaves their house. Once you’re notified, you have a real-time look on a map where they are as well as an ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival).

The first time being picked up can be a little difficult due to your driver possibly not knowing exactly where to pick you up. Make sure to communicate with your driver to ensure a quick & smooth process. We all have somewhere to go!

If you are the first or only rider being picked up, we highly encourage you to take the front seat. Get to know your driver and let them know you! This by far leads to more conversation which in turn leads to a better commute.

Once dropped off, let your driver know if this same drop-off location is where you’d like to picked up at the end of the day.

As the end of the work day approaches, message your driver to make sure everything is going as planned. Just like in the morning, once your driver leaves to come pick you up the FareShare app will notifiy you. Talk about your day or listen to a music/podcast and unwind, you made it!

Once you’re dropped off back home, you’ll be prompted to rate your driver and if you’d like to continue riding with this driver. Your driver will also be prompted to rate you as a rider as well as if they would like to continue driving you. If you both agree to continuing driving together, then CONGRATS you just made a great new connection!

As you continue down this great path together, you’ll both be updated on your FareStats which show how many trees, cars, and CO2’s you have saved!

What are the benefits of riding with FareShare?

FareShare pays you back in 3 ways: Savings, Time, and Peace of Mind.

Savings: The reason most people carpool is to save money. At FareShare we guarantee nothing short of that. The Triple A (AAA) reports that when we drive, we spend an average roughly 60 cents per mile. That’s crazy! FareShare makes it so that each rider only pays at max half of that. This allows the rider to save at least 50% of their commute! Don’t believe us? After inputting your commute information, FareShare will show you a comparison of your commute when taken by yourself and by FareShare. Then we’ll breakdown your commute per mile, day, month, and year.

Time: The average commute time can take within 25-45 minutes per day each way, resulting in at least 50 minutes of precious time in traffic that can be used to catch up on emails, brainstorm tasks to be completed for the day or for the night, or to simply sit back and relax while you’re driven to work or home.

Peace of Mind: The peace of mind aspect is a crucial yet heavily underestimated aspect of carpooling. When driving alone, we let out anger and stress that shouldn’t be there in the first place. However, when we’re in a car with others we engage in conversation and allow time to pass by much faster and smoother. That’s where, FareShare’s likes and preferences matcher comes in to ensure that is possible.

Another aspect of FareShare’s peace of mind benefit is that since it’s a subscription based model that has a consistent set of similar drivers and riders commuting together, rapport, comradery, and connections can be built. We mean it when we say we want to create a community within 4 doors.

What if I don't match with any drivers?

It’s important to note that if you do not match with anyone it has nothing to do with your likes and preferences since the main umbrella factor of matching people is based off route similarity.

If you happen to not be matched with anyone we recommend adjusting your pick-up/drop-off locations/times to places where you could walk 2-10 minutes. Due to FareShare only matching rides that are incidental and time-convenient a quarter-mile or waking up/leaving the house 10-30 minutes earlier/later could mean the difference between a great match or no ride. Additionally, changing your time flexibility preference could be beneficial to finding a ride.

If a ride is still not found under new circumstances make sure to keep the app downloaded. We will add you to a waitling list that will prioritize you whenever a ride is available under your preferred settings. Once a ride is found, we will send you a notification via the FareShare app and email.

I really liked my driver at the beginning but now things changed. What can I do?

We’re sorry to hear that.

You should know that at the end of everyday that you are given a ride, you will be prompted to give feedback about your ride. If this is a problem that only occured once we encourage you to approach your driver, be honest with them, and let them know what they can do to help the situation.

If you do this and they are unresponsive to your request or if the problem was so bad that you refuse to continue with your driver please contact support and explain to us what happened. Additionally, if needed, we will walkthrough with you on how we can find you a new driver (if available).

We want to ensure that both riders and drivers have a safe and positive carpooling exprience with FareShare.

How is payment handled on FareShare for riders?

FareShare is a carpool subscription service in which riders pay at the beginning of each month that they will use the carpooling system. Payments are not taken when you create an account or when you upload your commute information (although an approximate price will be shown to you when you do). Payments are only taken out when both the rider and driver agree on a route for that month.

Payments are not given to the driver right away. They are given to them at the end of the month. Why We Do This: FareShare allows a ride cancellation allowance which allows riders to cancel a ride with a refund for that day.

Additionally, we understand that drivers can be flaky and we do not want to penalize you for that. If a driver cancels or is a no-show, for their first time we’ll cover them and refund you for that day. After that, they pay for your refund.

Essentially, the price you see at the beginning of the month is the maximum that you will be charged for that month.

Also please note that nearly 100% of your contributions go to your driver. FareShare takes a small fee in order to provide safety checks on drivers, navigation, live updates, contact info, and payment transactions (so it’s all electronic and no cash is needed).

Since FareShare is based on subscription payment, what is the ride cancellation policy?

We understand that life happens and that events occur with ourselves or our family that make us put work second. We get it. Every rider has one ride per month which they are able to get refunded the amount that they would have payed for that day’s commute.

After that day, refunds would not be given out; however, the average driver spends .60 cents per mile when driving meanwhile when using FareShare riders pay less than half of that per mile. To put in perspective, if a rider signs up for 20 days per month of commuting to work with FareShare and only uses 10 of those days due to personal reasons, that rider is still paying slightly less than driving by themselves for those 10 days! Note that out of those 10 days missed that month, 1 of those is refunded due to the per month allowance so savings is even more

I want to keep my car but make money doing what I already do, how can i start as a DRIVER?

How do I start?

We appreciate all those that want to not only save on their commute but to help the Earth, and use the carpool lane while they’re at it!

How to get started:

1. First download the FareShare app and create a login!

2. Create a unique profile where you share your likes and preferences. The more you share, the better chance of matching with suitable traffic warriors!

3. Let us know your perfect commute: home and work addresses, time of wanting to leave home and work, and time flexibility.

4.  Kickback and let us find people with the best routes and times that match yours. Once we have that matched, we’ll display prioritize available riders based on your likes and preferences for you to pick. Additonally, we’ll have you in a pool where riders with similar commutes as you can ask to join your car (most common method of matching). All riders with the same route as you will be displayed. We understand commutes to and from work can be long and lonely. FareShare makes it so you can speed things up on the carpool lane and still be able to enjoy great company and great savings!

5.  Click on a preferred available rider and view their profile and see the proximity of their destinations to yours as well as what your reimbursment rate would be (based off their days and miles using FareShare). Additionally, check out their likes and preferences to see if a car ride with them would be an enjoyable one! Once you’re happy with a rider, simply tap to request them to carpool with you, in which they’ll be notified through an email and a notification through the FareShare app to confirm.

6. Once you and a rider agree, contact and route information are available to both the rider and driver. We recommend messaging your new rider introducing yourself first and welcoming the rider to your car! We also recommend asking for any pointers of where and when exactly they would like to get picked up just so there’s no miscommunication! This can lead to an easier pick up and a smoother commute!

What should I expect my first day driving with FareShare?

After signing up and confirming with your rider about the commute details (if you have questions about this please look at “How do I Start”), the night before your first commute we’ll send you a notification recommending you when you should leave your house (based off previous traffic history and rider proximity) in order for you all to get to work in your preffered time range.

In the morning, once you leave your house, come back to the app and press the “On My Way” button in order to notify your fellow commuters your on your way. If you forget to press it and are on your way anyways, try to tap it as soon as possible in order to give your riders a heads up. Once you notify them, they will have a real-time look of where you are as well as an ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival). Additionally, you will be given your rider(s) locations as well as a built in map that navigates you to them.

The first time picking up can be a little difficult due to not knowing exactly where to pick up. Make sure to communicate with your rider(s) to ensure a quick & smooth process. We all have somewhere to go! Just remember after the first time picking up, it’s a lot easier.

If you only have one rider to pick up or if this is your first rider being picked up, we highly encourage you to encourage them to take the front seat. Get to know your riders and let them know you! This by far leads to more conversation which in turn leads to a far better commute. We’re all here to save time and money, as well as enjoy it too.

Once you drop off your rider ask them if this is the place that they would like to be picked up, most of the times it is.

As the end of the work day approaches, message your rider to make sure everything is going as planned. Just like in the morning, once you leaves to come pick up your riders, tap the “On My Way” button to notify your riders via the FareShare app. Talk about your day or listen to music/podcasts and unwind, you made it!

Once you’re dropped off back home, you’ll be prompted with rating you rider and if you’d like to continue driving with this rider. Your rider will also be prompted to rate you as a driver as well as if they would like to continue riding with you. If you both agree to continuing driving together, then CONGRATS you just made a great new connection!

As you continue down this great path together, you’ll both be updated on your FareStats which show how many trees, cars, $. and CO2 you have saved!

What are the benefits of driving with FareShare?

FareShare pays you back in 3 ways: Savings, Time, and Peace of Mind.

Savings: The reason most people carpool is to save money. At FareShare we guarantee nothing short of that. The Triple A (AAA) reports that when we drive, we spend an average roughly 60 cents per mile. That’s crazy! Everytime a driver carpool with FareShare they save at least 50% on their commute.

Time: The average commute time can take within 25-45 minutes per day each way, resulting in at least 50 minutes of precious time in traffic. When carpooling with FareShare, you can hit the carpool lane and help alleviate that loss. Additionally, whenever there’s someone else in the car to talk to, traffic doesn’t seem so bad.

That’s where FareShare’s likes and preferences matcher comes in to ensure hospitable moments in unhospitable traffic is possible.

Another aspect of FareShare’s peace of mind benefit is that since it’s a subscription based model that has a consistent set of similar drivers and riders commuting together rapport, comradery, and connections can be built. We mean it when we say we want to create a community within 4 doors.

What if I don't match with any riders?

Normally for drivers, riders initiate which drivers fit their commute the best however you will still be able to look at a pool of available riders that match your commute preferences. These riders are usually riders who weren’t able to find a ride at the time of creating their commute preferences and are looking for a ride so they usually are more than happy to be requested for a carpool.

It’s also important to note that if you do not match with anyone it has nothing to do with your likes and preferences since the main umbrella factor of matching people is based off route similarity, so please be honest about your likes to find a perfect fellow-commuter!

If you happen to not be matched with anyone we recommend slightly adjusting your work location/time to places where driving an extra 2-5 minutes would not be bothersome. Due to FareShare only matching rides that are incidental and time-convenient a quarter-mile or waking up/leaving the house 10-30 minutes earlier/later could mean the difference between a great match and savings or no rider. Additionally, changing your time flexibility preference could be beneficial to finding a rider.

If a rider is still not found under new circumstances make sure to keep the app downloaded. We will add you to a waitling list that will prioritize you whenever a rider is available under your preferred settings. Once a rider is found, we will send you a notification via the FareShare app and email.

How is payment handled for drivers?

FareShare is a subscription based account meaning drives become at the reimbursed in whole at the end of each month that they wil be part of the carpooling system. An approximate payment is shown when you or a rider requests to be fellow commuters. Payments are only taken out when both the rider and driver agree on a route for that month.

Payments are not given to the driver right away. They are given to them at the end of the month.

Why We Do This: FareShare allows a ride cancellation allowance which allows drivers one free cancellation per month. Also, this way you can see the entire sum of your savings rather than just small increments of it. This lump sum can then be used on your next month’s expenses or on whatever you like!

Also please note that nearly 100% of rider contributions go to your driver. FareShare takes a small fee order to provide safety checks, navigation, contact info, live updates, and payment transactions (so it’s all electronic and no cash is needed).

Since FareShare is based on supscription payment, what is the ride cancellation policy?

We understand that life happens and that events occur with ourselves or our family that make us put work second. We get it. Every driver has one ride per month which they are able retain the amount that they would have been reimbursed for that day’s commute.

After that day, retainers would not be given out and your monthly payment goes down by the amount that you would have been reimbursed that day plus an additional .50 cents for a return transaction fee.

However, the average driver spends .55-.60 cents per mile when driving alone meanwhile when drivers who carpool with FareShare make at least 50% and up to 100% of each ride when they commute. To put in perspective, if a driver signs up for 20 days per month of commuting to work with FareShare and only drives 10 of those days due to personal reasons, that rider is still paying slightly less than driving by themselves for those 10 days! Note that out of those 10 days missed that month, 1 of those is refunded due to the per month allowance so savings would still be slightly more than half.

Can I carpool if I have a coupe?

Although we like to say we want to create a community within 4 doors, drivers with coupes are more than welcome to carpool. Riders will see that you have a coupe, however just double check with them to make sure they are OK with it.

Safe commuting!
